Nimona

5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Kindle Edition Hey Look, I’m alive. And back at work. Yeay for antibiotics! Nimona is a shapeshifter who becomes a sidekick to a villain named Ballistar Blackheart.  This is the story of their adventures. The story is hilarious and well written. At first I was a bit put off by the art, but then it started to grow on me as I read more.  Nimona’s character is awesome and spunky. Ballistar Blackheart is a villain who really isn’t a villain. I particularly love when they rob the bank and then play “world domination” or monopoly.I love how Blackheart was apparantly in a relationship with another man. This was one seriously awesome graphic novel. I recommend it to anyone. It’s funny and sad and overall just terrific. I was...

Jedi Academy: The Phantom Bully...

Aug 11, 2015 by

3.5 Stars, Borrow it Self Purchase, Kindle Edition In this volume, Roan is about to enter his final year at Jedi Academy the middle school. Hopefully this doesn’t mean an end to the series. I love how favorite characters from Star Wars appear (R-2, Yoda). In between pages of the comics are flyers and various other materials (including pages from Roan’s journal) from the school. They are very sweet and fun.   However, the series does seem to get a bit repetitive and predictable. While this one was fun, it was really only an average rating....

Cleopatra in Space #2 The Thief and the Sword...

Jul 27, 2015 by

4.5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Kindle Edition It’s been a while since I’ve read a graphic novel on my kindle- as opposed to reading on my computer via comixology. I forgot how nice and clean the images are on a smaller screen. I love the coloring and the art. Love talking cats. I can’t ever get enough of talking cats. This series is really how kids/teen books should be done. I love the story line. I love the characters. I love the art.  I wished the scenes without Cleopatra had been cut back on. She is what really makes this series and I felt like there were too many scenes that missed her. In any case, this series is fantastic. This volume leaves off on a bit of a cliff hanger so it’s going...

Lots of stuff happens. More people are met, Faye gets left alone. More trouble happens. Faye gets briefly reunited with her family members. Monster Elementary Vol 1

Jul 21, 2015 by

3 Stars, borrow it Self Purchase, Comixology Decided to read this now because I saw the kickstarter for volume 2 and if I like this I want to be part of volume 2 kickstarter. A collection of stories of little monsters in an elementary school that gets raided by the FBI and all of the monsters have to go to human public school.  At first I really liked it and decided to donate to the second kickstarter. But by the middle of the book I was starting to get bored. This is not a young kids book that adults would like. I’m sort of regretting donating to volume 2 but maybe I’ll like that one better. Description (Comixology): When the FBI closes Desmodus, Lukos, Francesca, Rags and Gilda’s monsters-only school, they are forced...

Trees, Volume 1

5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Comixology First Impression: definitely like the art and the story is facinating. OMG I LOVE this comic. Holy crap it’s awesome (even if it goes over my head in places).  I think my favorite story line is of the asian kid who is trying to find himself, though the researchers is also a great story line. I’m not really sure of how I feel about the third story line as I’m not clear as to what is really going on there.  I love that this is LGBT- there is a transgender person. I love the sex talk between Chengeli and the old man. Love lots of things about this. The writing is awesome and so is the art. The cliffhangers it left me on made me want to...
