4 Stars, Borrow it Self Purchase, Humble Bundle A teenager (Sail?) and her parents move to a new town. (Mom in a wheelchair by the way). In the previous town a girl who bullied Sail disappeared and Sail is apparantly blamed.  In this first issue it’s getting to know everyone. The art is fantastic, I’m definitely loving the colors. I like the story line so far, its creepy and I’m not sure where it’s going to go.  I think I may try a few more issues on comixology to see if it continues to be good. Description (Booklikes): Across the globe, century after century, men and women were burned, drowned, hanged, tortured, imprisoned, persecuted, and murdered for witchcraft. None of them were witches. They died protecting a terrible and hidden truth: witches, real...

Usagi Yojimbo: Yokai

Overall: 2.5 stars, don’t bother   Story: 2 Stars Art: 3 Stars   Self Purchase, Humble Bundle.   First Impression: like the art well enough   Very simplistic story line . Expected more from this. I know this is meant for kids but I like kids stuff and just don’t think this is all that great. It didn’t need to be this simplistic for kids.Dialogue was unexciting and everything was pretty predictible.   Also it was really short. The art was better than the story but not by much. I don’t think I’ll read more of these unless they are included in an awesome Humble Bundle again.   Description (Comixology): Yokai are the monsters, demons, and spirits of Japanese folklore, such as the shape-changing kitsune, the obakeneko demon cats, and the evil oni ogres. Usagi...

The Only Living Boy #1

4.5 Stars, Buy it   Self Purchase, Humble Bundle.   First Impression- I really like the art style.   A young boy runs away from his past that he can’t remember. He wakes up in a world not his own. Fairies! So of course I’m going to have to keep reading this. Of course there are monsters too.  Erik, the young boy, is forced to fight for his life. The creature he fights turns out to be Morgan, a creature who had earlier saved his life. Another creature is thrown into the mix and then they all escape the prisons where they were being held.  That is my general summary of issue #1.   I hate it when I see ratings on something I haven’t read yet.  I never can tell if it has...

Fairy Quest: Outlaws Issue 1

Overall: 2.5 Stars, Bombed!!   Star Rating Art:   4 Stars Star Rating Story: 1 Star Self Purchase, Humble Bundle   SPOILERS   An alternative version of red riding hood in which Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf are friends.  Lots of asides with Mr. Grimm issuing citations for people going off script. Then the comic gets abrubt and all the fairy tale characters are in a boot, sort of having group therapy. Cinderella rats out Red Riding hood to Mr. Grimm and a chase ensues yada yada. I just skimmed the rest.   I really liked the art, it had my favorite characteristics. Art taking up all the pages, not much white. Bright Jewel tone colors. Very nice art. However, the story totally just bombs. It’s a mess. Completely all over the...

Lumberjanes #2

3.5 Stars, Borrow if possible Self Purchase, Humble Bundle The kids are taken on a canoe trip. Of course, a river monster attacks. Fighting ensues. Some funny lines are said. Once they’ve caught their breath, they discover a secret cave.  Again, pretty short. Which is why I normally try to read the graphic novels of comics. The kids are pretty funny, and seem to be realistic of kids their ages.  The art I feel is growing on me a little bit, it’s not as bad as I thought when I read the first one this morning. If I have time later, maybe I’ll try to knock out issue 3 as well.   The writing is decent but not spectacular. No warnings and no anxiety rating to speak over. Over all good but average....

Overall: 3.5 Borrow it if you can find it anywhere to borrow   Star Rating Art:  3 Stars Star Rating Story: 4 Stars   Self Purchase, Humble Bundle Really cute story. some kids at summer camp see things they aren’t supposed to, get into a fight with foxes and they want to know what’s going on.   Very short, I wish it had been longer. But I have a bunch more of these so maybe later today I’ll try to read another one. This is the first Humble Bundle comic I finally got around to reading. The art isn’t great, so I could only give that a 3 stars.  ...
