Clover’s Luck

Oct 15, 2014 by

2.5 Stars, Don’t Bother   Netgalley review.   A young girl named Clover has lots of bad luck. Especially when it comes to keeping pets. One day while walking, she discovers an ad looking for volunteers for a magical animal adoption agency. She goes and volunteers there. She didn’t realize there would be magical animals despite the name. The person who runs the shelter disapears and a wicked witch plays a trick on Clover.   The illustrations are nice. But because this is an advance copy, the formatting is weird in places but not to the point of being unreadable. I can tell the illustrations are really sweet.  I think this could be a little anxiety provoking for kids who were like me.   Overall this had the potential to be whimsical and sweet...

Ninja Meerkats #1

Apr 14, 2014 by

2.5 Stars Self purchase for Kindle Not really a graphic novel. It’s more of a kids book with some brief, quickly drawn sketches of Meerkats. But I don’t mean to imply it’s bad, just not what I was expecting as it’s labeled as a graphic novel. 4 Meerkats are Ninjas and they named them (I assume) after famous martial artists: Bruce, jet, Donnie and chuck (don’t know the last two so maybe only two are?). Lots of puns and jokes.  Cute but I’m abandoning it at 50% in because it’s mainly silly jokes. Some kids books work well for adults but this isn’t one of them.  I won’t be reading the rest in the series as I was really really bored and have very limited reading time anyway....

Batman and Robin, Vol. 3: Death of the Family...

Sep 17, 2013 by

Overall: 2.5 Stars, Don’t Bother Star Rating Art: 3 Stars Star Rating Story: 2 Stars Netgalley Review. First Impression:  Average. Plot/Storyline:  I must admit, I wasn’t reading Batman when Damian came into existance, so I have no clue who is mother is and how he got to be living with Bruce Wayne. I will definitely have to go back to catch up.  Parts are really confusing, not sure what the heck is going on.  This book is a mess. Art is only average and the story confusing. I’m giving up after 30 pages as I don’t like to waste time with bad books....

Catwoman, Vol. 3: Death of the Family...

2.5 Bombed Star Rating Art:   4 Stars Star Rating Story: 1 Stars Netgalley Review. Like how catwoman drawn a lot. Joker not as gross and discusting in this one. For the most part I am really liking the art.: Catwoman totally hot. I love her short black hair. The joker isn’t as discusting in this version of events.  I’m giving up after 64 pages. I’m bored as hell and I don’t want to waste anymore reading time on this. I really liked the other books (of the 3 I’ve read) so I’m bummed I didn’t like this more. But Catwoman, totally hot. Quotes:  “And another thing. You can’t even smile. All you can do is unzip your face.” -Catwoman to Joker...

Justice League of America #1

Sep 9, 2013 by

Overall: 2.5 Stars, don’t bother, bombed Star Rating Art: 3 Starts Star Rating Story: 2 Stars Netgalley review. Initial Comments:     I must state that I don’t know anything about the Justice League, but I wanted to read this out of curiosity.  I did read a preview of Injustice League Volume 1 and liked that. I wasn’t really thinking these were the same thing (I have been away from comics for a long time).   Am happy Batman and Wonderwoman appear to be part of it.  I like how there are intros to all of the heros. This is really helpful. Parts of the story are ok but parts are horrible and I couldn’t always tell what was going on.  The book is a mess and the plot is all over the place. Art/Colors: Really? The...

The Bee Society: My Life as a Bee...

UPDATED Review:  2.5 Stars, don’t bother  The publisher saw my review and sent me a copy that was complete. Yeay! Good to know these reviews are actually read. I just feel bad I didn’t immediately get around to re-reading and reviewing. But this is just a hobby for me, I have a little boy and a full time job. It’s an ok book but nothing remarkable but some kids may like it.  I’m not particularly fond of the artwork.  I think it’s completely computer generated. I’m more impressed with children’s books that have art that’s hand done and then scanned in. But to each their own.  My complaint about the story still holds true,  there isn’t that much of a plot, just a running commentary on the bee’s life.   But its sorta cute, but...
