Technically Magic #0

3.5 Stars, Borrow it   Self Purchase, Kickstarter, Physical copy   First Impression: Art is great, story is not so bad.   This is the story of Kai, who is living on a spaceship. Because this is a young adult comic, there are of course bullies and such. However, the crew of this ship is forced to abandonship, leaving Kai behind in a pod. There is a section of tribal people on a planet and I found that part a bit confusing.  Kai lands on this planet called Urth and there it ends with the tribal people finding him on a beach.   I really like the art, but feel like the story line could be improved a bit. I found parts to be disjointed and not making sense. But this is issue #0...

All New X-Men #41

3.5 Stars, Borrow it Self Purchase, Comixology Shield asks some of the X-Men students to help them on Utopia. They arrive and meet the Utopia Mutants. There is some fighting but they all seem to end on decent terms. The utopians end up at the new mutants school. And there it ends. This story line will be concluded in another x title so this was it.  I wasn’t terribly impressed with it, but it wasn’t terrible either.  Will need to start with another X title. Description (comixology): Who are the Utopians? And what secret do they hold that pertains to the future of mutantkind? The All-New X-Men may regret finding out!...

Alpacas! Look and Learn

3.5 Stars, borrow Wow it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. I was seriously burning out on them. That and I just didn’t have time to do them. So I’ve finally found a little bit of time to get one done.   The pictures are larger in this edition of Look and Learn though some are blurry. One photo is insanely cute with a close up on a face, unfortunately, its blurry.  Overall very decent edition of this. The author seemed to actually try writing. I would have given this 4 stars but the pictures were just so blurry. Worth a read if you can find it to borrow it somewhere but I wouldn’t spend money on it as the pictures were do blurry. Did you know?   Alpacas were exported...

The Only Living Boy #3

3.5 Stars, Borrow it Self Purchase, Comixology Erik gets help from a mysterious stranger. While trying to escape, they get chased by some kind of giant worm.  Erik ends up in a ship, going off to some new place in which he finds his lost friends. And then they are off to another destination.  I found this issue to be a little bit of a let down after the first two. There isn’t a real explanation for how Erik mysteriously ends up on the planet where his friends are. The mysterious person just sets him adrift and he randomly ends up where he needs to be? I felt like that needed to be better explained. Erik is sort of just bouncing around with no purpose (that is the plot but still seems a little...

The October Faction #7

3.5 Stars, buy it Self Purchased, Comixology I had a hard time coming up with a rating for this issue. On one hand I liked the art, even if it got gorry in places. On the other hand, really not that much happens other than everyone braces for an attack.  Most of the time I like this series, but this issue was really just ho hum, whatever. But I’m categorizing it into the buy it category cause most of the issues are worth having. It does have a little bit of a cliff hanger but we will have to wait and see if it turns into anything. Description (Comixology): Halloween comes to Gristlewood and the horrors come right along with it–Fred and Lucas make a terrible discovery about Lucas’ health and the kids find...

Lumberjanes #14

3.5 Stars, buy it/borrow it Self Purchase, Comixology The girls are out camping when a freak snowstorm hits. Jen gets separated from the group and is surrounded by wild creatures of some sort.  Rosie shows up to help the girls. Jen is rescued by a mysterious woman who hunts magical creatures. The girls of course go out to rescue Jen and end up meeting some of the scouting lads. Meanwhile Rosie meets up with the weird lady and so Rosie goes off to rescue Jen from Abigail’s clutches. Decent issue, fun, magical creatures and trouble of course. The art is pretty consistant and the story is always fun.  Not really sure where this story line is going to go but it seems ok right now. I wish there had been more focus on the...
