All-New X Men Volume 1

May 4, 2015 by

3 Stars, borrow it   Self Purchase, Comixology   SPOILERS   At first I liked this, but by the end of the 3rd/4th issues, I got bored. I usually like Bendis writing but this just wasn’t interesting me. I read enough to give this a rating but I am abandoning this at 75% because life is too short for stuff you are not enjoying.  I did like that two of my favorite X-Men were in this- Hank (The Beast) and Kitty Pryde. Love them both.  I  also liked how there’s some great lines and good humor.   However, time travel stuff just confuses me so I tend not to read it (With the exception of Exiles which I loved.).  Anyway, this series has been cancelled anyway so maybe I’ll just go back to Astonishing...

Cats! Look and Learn

Jul 28, 2014 by

2 Stars, BOMBED   Just to start off, I have 3 cats (Itchy, Scratchy and Merlyn). So pretty much I’m expecting this book to tell me absolutely nothing new.  But I decided to review this one today as I was looking though my list of look and learns and a cat was meowing in the background. So heck, I figured time to review this one.   Did one of the pictures really have to be a cat chowing down on a mouse? No blood and not gory but I really didn’t want to see that. One statement in this was: “Black cats are said to bring bad luck.” Really? I thought this was supposed to be a factual book. I think a better way of saying that could have been found so it wasn’t...

I Was the Cat

May 20, 2014 by

Overall 2 Stars bombed Netgalley Review First Impression: Not impressed with the art style, but I am willing to give it a chance since it involves CATS! Talking cats are always good. Takes place in the U.K. I like how some of the text boxes are shaped like cats. Dislike The way Reggie is drawn. Her hair is horrible and she is just ugly. Overall  a failure. I was hoping for something awesome instead I got a ridiculous story of a cat trying to take over the world. (We all know cats already rule, but that’s besides the point).  The story was weak and slow. The art was pretty lousy.  And the ending was lame. Do not recommend this to anyone.  A little bit of plot summary follows. Oh and there was one funny...

Opossums! Look and Learn

Apr 23, 2014 by

2 Stars, bombed   Opposums are actually sort of cute.   The pictures of course are small, and pixilated like most in the series. There is bad editing: “The opossums can run at a speed of up to 15 pounds.” Don’t even try. Jeeze people. This is pretty weak in the series, the facts were all pretty boring. I don’t recommend this one.   Did you Know? Opposums are believed to have evolved from marsupials that lived in South America. Opossums have some immunity towards venom of certain snakes Opossums can give birth to as many as 15 babies at one time There are 60 species of Opossums...

Ninja Meerkats #1

Apr 14, 2014 by

2.5 Stars Self purchase for Kindle Not really a graphic novel. It’s more of a kids book with some brief, quickly drawn sketches of Meerkats. But I don’t mean to imply it’s bad, just not what I was expecting as it’s labeled as a graphic novel. 4 Meerkats are Ninjas and they named them (I assume) after famous martial artists: Bruce, jet, Donnie and chuck (don’t know the last two so maybe only two are?). Lots of puns and jokes.  Cute but I’m abandoning it at 50% in because it’s mainly silly jokes. Some kids books work well for adults but this isn’t one of them.  I won’t be reading the rest in the series as I was really really bored and have very limited reading time anyway....

The End Times of Bram & Ben...

Apr 10, 2014 by

Overall 1.5 Stars Star Rating Art: 2 Stars Star Rating Story: 1 Star Netgalley Review. (Reviewing on Iphone) Did not finish. First Impression: Funny, but the art for the characters isn’t all that. Art/Colors: The drawing is almost like they sketched it as fast as they humanly could and didn’t bother with the details. The people look weird. Characters: The characters are rather painful. Stereotypical single sloppy men. Ben is seriously whiney and annoying and Bram is just a jerk. Writing: The plot is that suddenly a bunch of people disappear. No explanation.  The writers are obviously men with stupid ass lines like this: “Don’t worry! I’ll be all over these two like sores on whores.”- Could we try something less crass and more original? Overall: I’m abandoning this at 30 pages in. Seriously,...
