Rat Queens #11

5 Stars, BUY IT!!!!! Self Purchase, Comixology Ha! I finally have time to read a single issue comic during my lunch break. The girls are being held prisoner by goblins. Betty of course gets them out. She is so adorable and so freaking funny. Hannah’s father (I think it’s Hannah so bad with names) is causing problems so off the girls go. I FUCKING LOVE THIS COMIC. If you aren’t reading it, what the hell is wrong? This is my favorite comic out right now, maybe even better than Saga.  I love the cussing and that the girls are not stupid wall flowers. OMG can’t get enough of Betty. And this issue is left on a cliff hanger damn it!!! Why can’t this comic come out more often. So consistently awesome. Quotes: “ Getting...

3.5 borrow. Buy.Borrow   Self Purchase, Kindle Edition   Normally, I have a thing about reading introductions, they usually just bore the crap out of me. But this is a Murakami book. He’s my favorite author at the moment. It was interesting to read for a change (probably because I like his writing so much). My only issue was that it was a weird switch from reading about the author and writing and then starting one of the two stories in the book which deals with a writer. It confused me for a moment or two. This book is two early stories of Murakami combined into a book.   Hear the Wind Sing- a little novella about a young man (whom I think is a writer?). Of course there is mention of music...

Gotham Academy #9

4.5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Comixology Finally some time to read a comic on a lunch break! Olive is off doing something on her own in the woods when the gang catches up to her. After some investigating the gang discovers there is a werewolf on campus. Olive finds out a little more history of her past. And she starts talking to Tristan. A werewolf attacks. Some other stuff happens but I don’t want to ruin it. This was one of the better issues of Gotham Academy. The story line moved, things happened. I really enjoyed this issue (I pretty much always do). My only complaint is that I wasn’t quite sure what was happening at the end of the issue. But anyways, overall fantastic issue. Love this series. Description (Comixology): If...

Jedi Academy: The Phantom Bully...

3.5 Stars, Borrow it Self Purchase, Kindle Edition In this volume, Roan is about to enter his final year at Jedi Academy the middle school. Hopefully this doesn’t mean an end to the series. I love how favorite characters from Star Wars appear (R-2, Yoda). In between pages of the comics are flyers and various other materials (including pages from Roan’s journal) from the school. They are very sweet and fun.   However, the series does seem to get a bit repetitive and predictable. While this one was fun, it was really only an average...

Robert the Bruce

3.5 Borrow it Self Purchase, Kindle Edition I’m pulled into the world and story very easily.  This is a great (though not amazing) book. I love the characters and love the story.  Robert the Bruce is a very likeable character. I did feel like the novel ended weirdly. I would have thought the book covers his entire life but it only covers until he’s 23 or so.  The second book in the series is about William Wallace, so I’m confused about the ending. I’m not very good with very political story lines so the political parts made my head spin a bit.  Not a bad book but also nothing earth shattering. Worth a read but you don’t need to buy the book.   Jack Whyte is the author of this book and is also...

5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Comixology A doctor has been brought in to the Carysle compound to help the sick/dying head of the family. Meanwhile, Forever is getting some military action in. I absolutely love Forever’s character. She’s loveable yet sexy and intense. Not much seems to happen, just political stuff and military action. but then HOLY SHIT the end.  NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!   SPOILER.  Forever is shot and it looks like in the head.  Boy is it going to be a wait for the next issue.  Love this series. Not meant for younger readers as it can be very graphic and gory. But I seriously love this series.  I was going to only rate this issue 4 stars, until the end. Now I have to rate it 5. Can’t wait for next issue!!! Description (Comixology):...

Jem & The Holograms #5

Jul 29, 2015 by

5  Stars, buy it   Self Purchase, Comixology   I recently read someone else’s review of the first Jem and Holograms issue. I was sad that the person didn’t like it,  as I totally love the series. I always question my own judgement when someone else doesn’t like something I love. I do have to agree that Jerrica is a little pathetic but I was a child in the 80’s so Jem was a big thing for my sister and I. I think my favorite characters are Kimber and Jem. Anyway,  Jem and everyone else is on stage performing and the lighting starts to fall on them. Aja pushes Jem out of the way and is injured. The Misfits are furious because of all the attention Jem is getting.   Again, I LOVE...

3 Stars, borrow it Self Purchase, Comixology At first I really liked the series. It had an awesome trans character amongst many interesting characters. Then they were all freaking killed off except this one woman who I really don’t find that interesting.  I’m a bit frustrated with the series now. And this issue was all over the place yet nothing really happened. I may give this series only a few more issues before I give up but the beginning was so good and now it’s just blah. Disapointing. Description (Comixology):A Tree stands on Orkney. Five thousand years ago, this was the center of the...

4.5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Kindle Edition It’s been a while since I’ve read a graphic novel on my kindle- as opposed to reading on my computer via comixology. I forgot how nice and clean the images are on a smaller screen. I love the coloring and the art. Love talking cats. I can’t ever get enough of talking cats. This series is really how kids/teen books should be done. I love the story line. I love the characters. I love the art.  I wished the scenes without Cleopatra had been cut back on. She is what really makes this series and I felt like there were too many scenes that missed her. In any case, this series is fantastic. This volume leaves off on a bit of a cliff hanger so it’s going...

Lots of stuff happens. More people are met, Faye gets left alone. More trouble happens. Faye gets briefly reunited with her family members.    3 Stars, borrow it Self Purchase, Comixology Decided to read this now because I saw the kickstarter for volume 2 and if I like this I want to be part of volume 2 kickstarter. A collection of stories of little monsters in an elementary school that gets raided by the FBI and all of the monsters have to go to human public school.  At first I really liked it and decided to donate to the second kickstarter. But by the middle of the book I was starting to get bored. This is not a young kids book that adults would like. I’m sort of regretting donating to volume 2 but maybe I’ll like that one better. Description (Comixology): When the FBI closes Desmodus, Lukos, Francesca, Rags and Gilda’s monsters-only school, they are forced...

Gone with the Wind

5 Stars. Buy it   Spoilers   This was definitely a favorite while I was growing up and helped me really like long novels. One thing I’m noticing is that despite being quite a bit older since I’ve last read this, is that it’s still really hard to understand when the slaves are talking.   DAMN it. My heart broke all over again. It’s just not fair that Scarlett basically loses everything she has just as she realizes what she had.  I’m finally going to have to finally read the follow up, though I know it is not written by Mitchell. Because I can’t be left hanging like this. OMG.   The book is beautifully done, but there are definitely some slow spots- not at the end though.  I love the scene when Scarlett...

4.5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Comixology Keira’s mentor is in deep trouble for something that happened in issue 1. But Albert, is sort of forced to take Keira out on another call in which they are trying to recruit a freelance mage. While on the call, Keira and Albert are attacked by mythological creatures. Albert seems to be warming up to Keira. That’s about it. I really like Keira’s character (and her name!). She’s fiesty and a bunch of trouble. Plus anyone with pink hair rocks.I love the little gizmo type creature that is in the background of Mage Inc.  Again, i like the fact that Albert Lamus, and some other characters are black. It’s not often there are people of color or other ethnicities in some of these comics. I like the...

5 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Comixology Edition Again with the weird book cover page after a page or two of comic. I don’t get these at all. Anyway, this is it. The parley with the Bison tribe.  7 Scars (head of Bison) meets with the Champion. The parley is broken and of course there is fighting. Gharta and the others imprisoned are rescued by Dusty. There are tons of fleeing characters and lots of chaos. I won’t say more than that as it’s a good issue and should be read. Oh, incase I haven’t mentioned this before, this series isn’t meant for anyone younger than teens. It’s heavy on violence (though not gratuitously) and there is explicit cussing. But those things don’t bother me. Anyway, this is a seriously intense issue. I could...

4 Stars, Buy it Self Purchase, Comixology I picked this up because I saw the 2nd issue in the new releases and thought it looked like it might be up my alley.  Keira is a young woman with pink hair who has just started her internship at Mage Inc. Albert Lamus is her boss and isn’t exactly thrilled to be there. (I’m impressed they have an African American Mage actually!) Albert has to go around collecting dues from Mages.  I like they have definitions of magical terms- though not really sure if they are made up or not. Anyway, I really enjoyed this. I think the art is all computer generated (not a bad thing really) but I do tend to like hand drawn work better. The art is very good despite being computer...

Stars, BUY BUY BUY! Self Purchase, Comixology Honestly, I know I say this a lot but I’m confused again about who is who. Ugh I need recaps people! Also, I need a better memory. Anyway, Rosie is telling Jen about when Rosie and Abigail were in camp together, before Abigail became the Bear Woman. Meanwhile, the girls (ok and boys) are being herded by talking wolves. Rosie, Jen and the girls are reunited.   I won’t say more than that as it’s a rockin issue and I want everyone to enjoy it. So overall, this issue kicks some butt! And I mean big time. I can’t tell you how much I love the girl campers. Even Jen is growing on me. And it’s so freaking funny!!  As a side note, I first got introduced to...
